[they really should install seat belts on these things — or would that just make it worse?]

[sora tries his darndest to be graceful about his unintended exit from the raft, but unfortunately, his swan dive is more like a flailing sort of belly flop. and to add insult to injury, the driver of the boat seems not to have noticed the raft he's pulling is no longer occupied, and he and speeds on without them.]

[once the shock wears off and his limbs stop stinging from slapping against the water, sora's splashing around frantically, looking for that girl who was on the raft with him.]

Hey! Are you all right?

[ There's a cough and several sputtering noises before Tsubomi pops up to the surface, totally (understandably) soaked and looking around just as frantically. ]

W-where's the raft??

[keychained]

[Sora doesn't answer that immediately — he just turns to look in the direction of the boat and raft. the guy still hasn't noticed they fell off, and is quickly retreating into a dot on the horizon.]

Um ...

[okay, no panicking yet! they can still see the shore from here, though it's a bit of a swim. Sora's pretty confident he can do it, but...]

I think we're on our own! Do you think you can swim back to shore?

[flortissimo]

[ ... Oh. Well, she can swim, but she's not exactly a strong swimmer and her stamina when she's in her civilian form is... pretty darn laughable. But-- ]

I-I can try...

[it's little consolation, but Sora would probably be one of the last people to be weirded out if Chypre suddenly appeared and she was able to transform.]

[in any case, he kicks over to her, extending one of his hands out to her.]

It's okay — it'll be much easier if we do it together! Just stick to kicking for now, okay? Don't use your arms unless you really need to — I'll steer us to the beach.

Are you sure? I-I feel like that's asking a lot of you...

[ But at the same time, she's inching her hand out to clasp his-- because he at least seems to know what he's talking about. ]

Definitely! It'll be even easier once we catch a wave.

[at least, it should be a lot easier, considering there's two of them, and they shouldn't have to worry too much about being pulled under, what with the life jackets and all. once Tsubomi takes his hand, he gives her a reassuring smile.]

My name's Sora, by the way. Sorry we're meeting like this.

It's not your fault.

[ She's still subdued and miserable after having been thrown headlong into the ocean, but Tsubomi can muster a thin smile and that much reassurance. ]

But my name is Tsubomi... it's nice to meet you, um-- even like this.

[keychained]

[it'll make a fun story to laugh at later, right? ... right ...]

Are you ready?

[he'll start leading the way back to shore at a relaxed pace, glancing back every so often, at Tsubomi, and at the waves in a search for one they could ride for a moment or two.]

[and Sora will keep on talking, too — because he figures it's easier to focus on talking than swimming, and also because he isn't so good at silence.]

[ That's fine. Honestly, he's like a milder version of Erika, not so much demanding as he is talkative, and it helps Tsubomi relax incrementally more. Sans the moments when a wave or two will rise up to smack them in the face and she ends up sputtering and coughing all over again, but there's no real fear that they won't make it to shore.

What a day, though. ]

Well, at least we have good weather to — ah!

[NO PANICKING his feet just bumped against something — wait. it's the ground. success!]

All right, we made it!

W-we... made it...

[ Pardon Tsubomi, she's just going to flop over on the sand now. ]

[keychained]

[no judgment here. he peels off his life jacket — to be honest he always hated the things, but today, he's pretty thankful he had it — and plops down in the sand nearby.]

Are you all right?

[flortissimo]

I... thought we were going to be in much bigger trouble... [ She's also kind of gasping for air like she just ran a marathon, but that's just how Tsubomi is. ]

B-but thank you for your help, Sora-san.

[Sora would be more than happy to help her to the first aid tent if she needs. but he just turns slightly, a gentle, friendly smile on his face.]

You don't need to be formal — you can call me just Sora if you want. [because he figures that being flung off of a raft in the ocean and managing to swim back to shore is one of those surefire friendship-forming events.]

And, it was no trouble at all! I'm just glad we're both back on shore now.

I'm also relieved... I think maybe next time I'll just admire the ocean from here.

[ But at least she can peel the life jacket off now and give it a shot wringing out her pigtails. Sora... was it? He did just help her out tremendously, so maybe she can give him a little less formality. If that's what he wanted. ]
